Research Engineer - Digital Microfluidics - Entry-Level/Fresh Graduate

The Programme

Seagate Research Group creates proof-of-concept (PoC) and explore feasibility in devices/concepts that will be used for our next generation product, technologies and services. 

Currently, we are seeking an engineer in the exciting area of lab-on-a-chip. This position offers a variety of opportunities to prototype, experiment and benchmark new ideas and concepts in lab-on-a-chip domain.  

What You Will Do

Lab-on-a-chip Role:

  • The engineer will be involved in exciting projects in lab-on-a-chip involving designing experiments to proofs-of-concept.
  • The successful candidate will also work with the global team of Seagate researchers in designing and fabricating microfluidic devices, evaluating systems, as well as analyzing and documenting the results for internal as well external reports and presentations. Out-of-the-box thinking is highly encouraged. 
  • The candidate is expected to be abreast of the latest developments in the domain. 

Biochemistry Role (DNA Amplification / Molecular Biology Technique):

  • The candidate will be involved in exciting projects involving designing experiments to proofs-of-concept.
  • He/she will evaluate systems as well as analyze and document the results for internal as well external reports and presentations. 
  • The successful candidate will work with the global team of Seagate Research and will also get the opportunity to be a part of the team for external collaborations.
  • The engineer is expected not only to apply his/her knowledge but also to research other innovative ideas.

Your Experience Includes:

Lab-on-a-chip Role:

  • Degree in Bio-mechanical, Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Good grasp of CAD design software such as Solid works. 
  • Practical knowledge of simulation packages, especially fluid flow. 
  • Apply basic scientific principles to solve technical problems. 
  • Knowledge of materials used in lab-on-a-chip.  
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques for the materials.  

Biochemistry Role (DNA Amplification / Molecular Biology Technique):

  • Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemical & Bio Engineering, and/or equivalent experience. 
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of DNA amplification techniques (PCR, LAMP, rolling circle amplification, etc.). 
  • A good understanding of primer design, buffer/enzyme optimization for RT-qPCR or other molecular detection methodologies. 
  • Good basic lab skills such as micro-pipetting and microscopic imaging. 
  • Knowledge of Bio-compatible materials. 
  • Experience in designing and executing wet-lab experiments.
  • Experience in conducting or detecting contamination during experiments.
